Robotics Team Tryouts!

Tryouts for the CMA Robotics Team will be held on Tuesday, December 1 and Wednesday, December 2 in Mr. Smith's classroom (E-6). †Students in 3rd - 8th grade who are interested in trying out should plan to attend one or both days from 3:20 to 5:00. †(Please make arrangements for pickup or activity bus.) †Space on the team is limited to about 12 students, and those who accept a spot on the team should be available for practices on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in January and February. †The competition is ALL DAY Saturday, February 27 at Wichita State. During practices, students will work to build and program robots to complete a series of complicated maneuvers and accomplish a goal. †They will also create an oral presentation for judges and a team notebook documenting their knowledge and progress. †It will be a LOT of hard work, but students will develop some great problem-solving and coding skills. †Contact Mr. Smith if you have any questions. †(ssmith3@usd259.net)

Contact Mr. Koranda, TSA Advisor, if you'd like to purchase a book and help out!
Help CMA's TSA help Ronald McDonald House!
The Technology†Student Association Chapter of CMA has been encouraging you to collect Pull Tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. If you have Pull Tabs to donate, please send them with your student or drop them by the office.
The CMA TSA members will be taking their tabs to the State Conference on March 24, 2016 and see how they stack up with the rest of the state chapters.
(Please note: CMA TSA will be taking the tabs by the Wichita RMH, after returning from the State Conference.)

Pop Tab Program FAQs

Why do you only collect the tabs from cans?
Although the whole aluminum can is valuable, the tab is much cleaner and easier to collect in large quantities than whole cans. The tab of a standard soda can is made of high quality, high-grade aluminum. By itself, it doesn't mean much, but when you pull together, pop-tabs add up and become a valuable donation to your local Ronald McDonald House.
Who can participate with the Pop Tab Program?
Anyone! Because they're common and easy to collect, pop-tabs allow virtually any individual or community organization to participate. Many schools support this project because it provides a terrific opportunity for children to get involved and make a genuine contribution to their community. Other enthusiastic participants include churches, hospitals, grocery stores, rotary clubs and business break rooms.

Just the Facts

The pull tabs do NOT buy time on dialysis machines or buy wheelchairs. We do NOT accept the whole can with the tabs because of space restrictions. We accept only clean recycled materials for the health of our families and children. We receive the going rate for aluminum, which changes as the demand changes - varying from rates of 23 to 52 cents per pound on any given period. We average about 450 pounds every 10 days, or approximately $234. Every penny helps families stay at the House -- $10 pays for one family for one night!

Pop Tab Fun Facts

Approximately one million pull tabs = 800 pounds
Approximately 1,430 pull tabs = one pound
Approximately 63,360 pull tabs = 1 mile
